Build Breakdown

Mobil 1

“For the love of driving” is a mission we can get behind. That’s why Mobil 1™️ advanced full synthetic motor oil was an easy choice for this build. After all, the Porsche and Mobil 1 brands have been partners since 1996, with the Mobil 1 brand serving as factory fill in every Porsche engine since that start.

Porsche vehicles powered by Mobil 1 motor oil have a staggering list of accomplishments on the track and street. Plus, Mobil 1 technology is formulated to provide exceptional performance and protection in extreme conditions. If that isn’t a perfect match for overlanding use, we don’t know what is.

We selected Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 for our turbocharged Cayenne as this proprietary blend was created by some of the best chemists and engineers in the business. This technology showcases all types of features and benefits, such as cleaning power and wear protection to keep this engine running like new. That sounds just like what we need to keep us on-track for our off-road adventures.

Eurowise

Performance
Off Road

When we decided to build an urban adventure overland rig out of a new-body Porsche Cayenne 9Y0 chassis, we did extensive research on who was doing what in this market. We wanted to find out who the leaders were and why they stood out. We kept running into one company that, of all places, was local to us in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company is called Eurowise Performance and it also has an off-road division known as Eurowise Offroad.

Founder Mike Ngo was born and raised in Charlotte, where Eurowise was founded in 2008. Since then it has specialized in European performance, fabrication and service. Mike's love and dedication to his passion led him to create a haven where automotive enthusiasts could experience the pinnacle of performance, which now is globally known as Eurowise.

Eurowise’s commitment to quality and innovation drives the shop's philosophy. Its mission is to pioneer exceptional products for the Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen market. Beyond the mechanical, the Eurowise team’s mission is to build lasting relationships with clients.

They see the consumer’s journey as more than a transaction; it’s a partnership. We absolutely love this philosophy.

Driven by passion, their dedication to developing unique and outside-the-box products engineered in-house ensures that every Eurowise Offroad product is a testament to quality, precision and performance.

With that in mind, we created a relationship with Mike and the team at Eurowise. It was the best decision for a build like this.

They manufacture their own off-road parts for overland vehicles, and when it comes to things they don’t have yet, they design and build them as well.

That’s exactly what happened with our GEN 3 9Y0 Cayenne build.

Here’s a rundown of things that Eurowise created for this project:

  • Tubular front bumper with aluminum skid plate. Bolt-on design.

  • Tubular rear bumper with integrated OEM parking sensors

  • Hood light mounts

  • Custom 3" lift kit - with prototype 2-way adjustable coilovers

  • Custom single-outlet side-exit exhaust utilizing OEM exhaust tip

  • Eurowise 30mm bolt-on hubcentric wheel spacers

When designing the front and rear bumpers, we didn’t just want to cobble together a bunch of tubes to achieve an off-road look. We wanted to add some unique design features not commonly seen on Cayenne projects. Starting with the front bumper, we followed all the factory body lines with the main tube integrating the bull bar for a seamless look. The center tube was then added after the fact. We could have easily just made one simple main tube and then added a bull bar, but we wanted to put a twist on this design. The bumper is 100% bolt-on and removable. Eurowise also designed an aluminum, CNC-formed front skid with laser-cut vents similar to the OE grille and Baja Designs light shapes. The result is an OEM+ looking off-road appearance, finished in a gloss black powdercoat.

On the rear, the Eurowise crew incorporated the OEM parking sensors into the bumpers, which was a big feat. Using CNC-formed sheet metal, they designed a diffuser-type center section with cutouts for the OEM parking sensors. The diffuser-style rear bumper mimics the OEM rear bumper with an off-road twist.

They then 3D-printed holders so the sensors click right in. With enhanced styling but also functional performance, the rear bumper now has more departure angle and clearance and is also very strong and tough.

Black Rhino Wheels

We wanted to utilize a wheel that would complement the build and demonstrate the spirit of adventure. We loved what Black Rhino was doing with new wheel designs; that team has definitely been following what Porsche design has done over the years.

Black Rhino Wheels was borne of South African heritage and is named after the tough and mighty black rhino, an icon of the African bush. Since the brand’s inception, Black Rhino Wheels has been passionate about protecting their namesake and supporting conservation efforts that will help to safeguard the rhino from extinction. A portion of all wheel sales is contributed towards the protection and conservation of all endangered rhino species.

The Black Rhino Stallberg Forged wheel features a forged one-piece monoblock construction made from 6061-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum. The Stallberg fuses off-road grit with exotic flare, boasting a unique split-spoke design capable of accentuating even the Cayenne’s Carrera relative. Available exclusively in 18x8” +20mm size and 5x130 bolt pattern, the Stallberg is tailored specifically for your adventure-bound Cayenne.

Falken Tires

When it came to rubber, we turned to our trusted friends at Falken Tire. We’ve run Falken tires on other overlanding builds and loved both their on-road driving function and off-road capability. When developing this build, we wanted to give the Cayenne a more aggressive look, bringing it back to its roots as an off-road-capable machine. We also had to keep in mind the way the vehicle was going to be lifted and how it would both sit and perform while moving.

After consulting with Falken Tire, we decided on 275 / 70 / 18 tires all around, which created the exact look we were going for.

Developed for lifted trucks, SUVs, and high-powered diesel pickups, the Falken WILDPEAK R/T sets a new standard for the rugged terrain tire category. Featuring the ultimate hybrid terrain tread pattern, the WILDPEAK R/T provides the tenacious off-road traction of an M/T while retaining the tread life and stability expected from an A/T. Built to deliver an ideal combination of traction, durability, and longevity, the Wildpeak R/T is the tire of choice for those who spend as much time on the road as they do on the rocks. As such, the WILDPEAK R/T carries a 50,000-mile Limited Tread Life Warranty; because a tire built to conquer any terrain shouldn’t let you down on the open road. Whether you’re towing, hauling, working, or crawling, modern heavy-duty pickups need tires designed to work hard. Get the job done with the WILDPEAK R/T.

Hoonigan

Hoonigan has been a partner for years, and anytime we can get together with that group and do something fun, we jump in on it. As we started to build this vehicle for adventure, and began having conversations with some of our friends at Hoonigan, one thing led to another. Ideas were tossed out and plans were made. Next thing you know, we were building this new rig with Eurowise to be unveiled at the 2023 SEMA Show in the Hoonigan display.

And that’s just the start…

Inozetek Wrap

Let’s talk color. When we set out to build an Urban Adventure Overland rig, and landed on doing so with a new-body Porsche Cayenne, we started to think about creating moments and conversations. We wanted to see what we could do with colors to capture the attention of others, all while still maintaining a classic and timeless look.

Mike Ngo from Eurowise has had great success with overland rigs and he mentioned to us that we should check out Inozetek for wrapping. So, vehicle designer Andy Williamson started to poke around and look at colors on the Inozetek website. When he came across a 997 RWB Porsche covered in Super Gloss Era Green, it stopped him in his tracks. The color embodied so many emotions for him. It captured the feel of old, classic Porsche vehicles with a nod to the future.

Andy quickly found out he had mutual friends with some of the guys over at Inozetek. They helped talk out the project and the final result was a new-body Porsche Cayenne covered in Inozetek Super Gloss Era Green.

Indepth Restyling

Indepth Restyling is made up of a group of car enthusiasts who are wizards of color change. This is something they live and breathe. When we approached Casey at the company to see if they could help us with our Mobil 1 Eurowise Porsche Cayenne project, it didn’t take long to realize these guys were the right team.

There are a lot of ways to wrap a car and change the color of a vehicle. And then there’s the tedious, painstaking way of checking every last detail. Indepth Restyling went above and beyond to change the color of this car. They put passion into this project. It was amazing to watch them perform the task and execute on a high level. Plus, they all have a positive, can-do attitude.

Once the car was wrapped, Casey and his team at Indepth Restyling worked overtime on the graphics necessary for the SEMA Show.

Never forget, the details matter most.

Funktion Performance

We had a killer set of wheels from Black Rhino, but we wanted to stand out from the pack. We also knew that with our project Porsche, we had the chance to accentuate one of the things that they’re most known for: big, beautiful brake calipers.

We knew we wanted to powder-coat the wheels and brakes, but we were facing a few hurdles. The first was timing. How fast could this be done? The next was to ensure top quality and attention to detail from the colors we were choosing.

We set up a consultation with Jeff at Funktion and quickly learned that not only could he perform this task, but he absolutely was passionate about doing something that would be a focal point on this build.

After spending time looking over pantone colors and design ideas, we stepped into a risky arena by asking if we could do something wild and fun with the brake calipers. Designer Andy Williamson found a picture of a gold color that looked like candy, and wanted to see if we could pull it off on the brakes.

Vibrant Performance

As we were working on the new Eurowise rear bumper, we wanted to create more room, which also made us consider performance. In fact, we removed the factory muffler to open up room for our new rear bumper. While doing that, we leaned on market leader Vibrant Performance for help with exhaust parts. Once we received the hard parts from the Vibrant Performance staff, the team at Eurowise was able to build out a new exhaust for our project. Huge win all around!

Vibrant Performance offers a wide assortment of fabrication goods for all of your turbo, exhaust, induction and fluid-delivery needs in a variety of sizes. Vibrant products are the ideal choice for naturally aspirated or forced-induced cars, trucks, off-road vehicles or anything with an engine.

Baja Lights

Lighting is a crucial part of an overland build like this. And there was a certain look and design we were going for, which turned us in the direction of Baja Designs for the custom lighting setup. When looking through the Baja Designs website, the company’s specialized focus on lighting for all areas of your rig is immediately clear.

Vehicle designer Andy Williamson reached out to Baja and started to talk to some of the crew there about the build, in particular about how he wanted to try and push the limits a bit. He connected with Jason Stilgebouer and Wes Wheeler from Baja and they hit it off right away. Both Jason and Wes were a huge help when it came to understanding and developing a kit that would be a ton of fun for this project.

So, as Andy started to play around with designs, he ended up breaking a few rules and doing some mix and match to cultivate a look and design that would be unique to this Urban Adventure Overland Porsche. Mike Ngo from Eurowise was there along the way, laughing and saying, “Let’s do it! Let’s push the limits a bit here!” That’s all Andy needed to hear, and he was off and running with some ideas and designs.

To help you better understand what products were used on this project, we have listed them below:

Chem Guy Detailing

The ChemGuy Detailing team has been a great partner on this project. They have been there to prep the car for the build and to protect it with ceramic coating.

Getting a car ready for a show like SEMA is no easy task. Going above and beyond and making sure that a car is in absolutely perfect condition takes a great deal of time and attention to detail. There’s also another element to it: passion. The Chem Guy team has all of the above and more.
